Sibling DNA testing for clarity, peace of mind & legal matters

The science behind the result
Siblings who share the same biological parents will have inherited overlapping segments of DNA from each of them. By comparing the genetic profiles of two individuals side by side, we can calculate the statistical likelihood of a shared biological relationship.
It is worth being clear that siblingship testing is more complex than parent and child testing. The result is expressed as a probability rather than a near certainty, which reflects the nature of sibling genetics rather than any limitation in the analysis. Where a parent is available to contribute a sample, including them significantly strengthens the result and we would always recommend it where possible.

How sibling dna testing works
Testing is simple and painless for everyone involved. A cheek swab is rubbed gently on the inside of the cheek to collect a DNA sample from each person participating. Samples are securely packaged and sent for analysis, where up to 45 genetic markers are compared to produce the most statistically robust result possible.

When siblingship testing matters
Siblingship testing is used in a range of situations where establishing a shared biological connection matters. It supports inheritance claims where parentage is in question, helps individuals who were separated through adoption or care to understand their biological connections, and can be relevant in legal proceedings where family relationships need to be established without a parent being available to test.

Peace of mind and legal testing
Whether the answer is needed for personal clarity or for use in a formal setting, we have a route that works. Our legally instructed testing follows a strict chain of custody throughout, and results are accepted by Family Courts, the Ministry of Justice, UK Visas and Immigration Service, the Home Office, HM Passport Office, Border Force and Immigration Enforcement.

DNA FAQs
A sibling DNA test can help establish whether two individuals share one or both biological parents — useful in inheritance disputes, family reconnection, or legal proceedings.
Sibling testing is more complex than parent-child testing, but advanced analysis gives a clear statistical likelihood of a sibling relationship. Where possible, including a parent’s DNA significantly strengthens the result.
We can test for full siblings (sharing both parents), half siblings (sharing one parent), and can also help distinguish between these where needed.
In most cases, results are returned within 3–5 working days of samples arriving at the lab. We’ll keep you updated throughout and make sure you understand your results fully.
